why designing your logo in canva might not be the best idea for your business.
Once you’ve started your business, the next logical step is creating a professional logo, it’s one of the first building blocks of your visual identity. You’re probably already familiar with Canva: it’s easy to use, packed with templates, and feels like a quick, cost‑effective solution. But that doesn’t mean it’s the right approach for your brand.
lack of originality
Canva’s pre‑designed templates are accessible to millions of users worldwide. That means hundreds, if not thousands, of other people could be using the same graphical mark. Sure, the text you add might be unique to your business, but the visual itself isn’t.
Imagine meeting a competitor and realising you’re both using the same icon. Not ideal.
A successful professional logo should be unique and memorable. It should help you stand out in a sea of faces and relying on templates simply can’t deliver that.
copyright & licensing issue
Canva even mentions this in its own T&Cs (though let’s be honest, who actually reads those?). In short: you can use their elements commercially, but you don’t own exclusive rights to them.
And that’s the problem.
How can you claim ownership of a graphic that thousands of other businesses can also use? Even if you think copyright won’t affect you, imagine spending time, energy, and money on branded materials… only to discover a local business using the same logo. It instantly undermines your brand’s authenticity and credibility.

limited customisation options
While canva is great at what it does, it does suffer from limited customisations when compared to software that’s designed to do this job, Adobe Illustrator or Affinity Designer for example. Without those extra tools, you might not be able to fine-tune or do those edits you want to make.
Unless changed if using the free version of Canva, you are limited to what you can access and restricted to the formats you can use. To create a scalable format to use in print or large-format marketing material, you can only do on the PRO account.
in conclusion
Canva is a useful tool and for many projects, it’s the ideal platform to use but when it comes to your logo i think because your logo is the face of your business then think it’s worthwhile seeking experts to deliver something truly unique to you instead of renting a logo from Canva which you don’t own.
